italian renaissance architecture
I looked into Italian Renaissance Architecture for this blog post. I looked through a lot of buildings and chose to dive more into 'St. Peter's Basilica.' Construction started on April 18th, 1506, and the building opened to the public on November 18th, 1626. 120 years after construction started. I learned that Renaissance Architecture and Baroque Architecture were used to make this building. It is located at Piazza San Pietro, 00120 Città del Vaticano, Vatican City. WIKOUS says, "St. Peter's Basilica was designed by Donato Bramante, Michelangelo, Carlo Maderno, and Gian Lorenzo Bernini. It has been described as "holding a unique position in the Christian world," - Sources here
I do believe this building and the art inside does inspire awe, the attention to detail is quite astounding. I think in a place like this you would be able to feel the amount of passion that went into building St. Peter's Basilica. I understand it to be a Christian Shrine and a burial place for some and I believe that adds more importance and passion to this building. I found an article with sketches of the building's interior. Even these prove to be impressive and can be seen here.

The elegance I think is shown by the color and space, space as in how big it is. It demands attention. The form and depth of the round dome parts make it seem bigger and bolder.

ReplyDeleteHello, great post I haven't seen many takes on the types of architecture around these time periods. The "St. Peter's Basilica" Is an outstanding building with paintings and natural reflected light all through out of it. This building is very prominent and does have a sense of elegance. The fact that Michelangelo had a part in this building being made, this must have been some type of all-star project for the time period.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if there are lasting buildings from the Nothern Renaissance after seeing this post. The type of power, influences, and royalties from the Italian Rennaissance worked out and made great artwork that are still standing till this day. They are for sure sights to see, one of a kind yet comparable artwork from the other generations.
